"It has been nearly ten years since I first attended one of Ken's classes. I was a truly obnoxious, know-it-all teenager. I studied under Ken for somewhat longer than 2 years, and still consider that period to be one of the most formative experiences of my life.
Although I have forgotten many of the finer points of Ken's Way of 4, the fundamental movements have been indelibly ingrained in my practice of martial arts. This has been crucial to me later in life. I am now a veteran of two combat deployments to Afghanistan. I am acutely aware of how important it is to have rock-solid fundamentals. Contrary to the popular myth; in a life threatening situation, no one rises to the occasion. Everyone falls to the lowest level of their training.
More important than the details of Tendril Hand techniques, has been how I truly learned to learn during those years. How Ken coached me to shut up and listen to my teacher, and become more attuned to feedback from both my body and from my opponent. I have utilized this instruction everywhere from learning medical skills, to shooting and skydiving as well as learning how to be a decent husband. Without the mindset and discipline that I learned from Ken, I severely doubt that I would have been as successful as I have been."
